Setting the View Properties
First, you need to set up your view, so the custom background is visible. If you skip this step, you will not see your new background at all, just the Advance Steel standard black background.
Go to Visual Styles Controls in the left top corner of your workspace. Left-click on the Visual Style (in my case Realistic highlighted in yellow), and from the dropdown menu, choose Visual Style Manager (circled in red below).
The Visual Style Manager will open. The top portion of the window will be all the visual styles available in Advance Steel. Look for Environmental Settings (circled in red) below and change Backgrounds to On.
Once you turn on Backgrounds, you can close the dialog box.
NOTE: Please be advised that in the Wireframe Style, you cannot override the standard background. Black is the only option.
Choosing a Background
The next step of the procedure is to choose a background for your workspace. Type the BACKGROUND command and press ENTER.
The menu will open, where you can choose a background from four options:
· None
· Solid
· Gradient
· Image
You can make your choice here:
None as a Workspace Background
The default selection is None as a background. The standard black background will be displayed.
Solid Background
When you select Solid Background, you can choose the color of your background from the three palettes available: Index Color, True Color, and Color Books:
You can see a color preview in the larger background window. Make your choice and click OK to confirm the selection. Your workspace will be displayed in the new color.
Gradient Background
If you choose a Gradient Background as your workspace background, the dialog box will open, where you can make a selection of up to 3 colors for your gradient. You also have the option to set your gradient on an angle. The numeric value of the angle you can specify in the rotation as shown below:
You can see a background color gradient preview in the Background window. Make your choice and click OK to confirm the selection. Your workspace will be displayed in the new gradient color:
Image Background
The last option is to use an image as your workspace background. You can browse your image library to find an image you would like to set as your Advance Steel workspace background. You can select the image position as Centered or Tiled:
Once you are happy with your adjustments, click OK to confirm your choice. Now, your model will be displayed with your picture behind it:
