Creating Miter Cuts in Advance Steel

The Miter Tool is used to create a miter cut between two structural members. The Miter Cut tool is available in the Advance Steel Tool Palette in Features. To access the Tool Palette, go to Home > Extended Modeling > Advance Steel Tool Palette

Once you click on the Tool Palette, it will open in a new flyout menu. Go to “Features” (bottom, left corner):

Creating Miter Cuts

Once you activate this tool, you will be asked to select the section to cut against. Select the section and press ENTER. Now you will be asked to select the section to cut. 

Upon selection of this section, the miter cut is created between two elements and the dialog box will be displayed:

Use the Type drop-down in the “Properties” tab to choose Saw Cut – Flange or Saw Cut – Web

The options available in Cut are used to define the gap and the weld options between the two elements:
