There are two ways of making welds in Advance Steel – both are described below. Other than that, you can place weld symbols in your drawings – also described below.
As far as welds, you can insert a Weld Point or Line of Weld. When you make a welded connection in Advance Steel, you can add or remove them from the welded connection.
How To Insert A Weld Point?
To access the weld point tool, go to the Objects tab > Connection Objects panel > Weld Point.
This tool is used to make a welded connection between parts and place the weld point to represent welding. When you use this tool, you will be asked to select the parts to be connected, and then you need to specify where you want to place the weld.
Placing the weld point on the connecting faces is recommended – the weld will then show on the assembly drawings.
You can also insert a weld line instead of just a weld point.
Line Of Weld
To access the line of weld tool, go to the Objects tab > Connection Objects panel > Line of Weld
The Line of Weld tool is very similar to the Weld Point tool, but instead of inserting a point, you can insert a line to represent the weld.
When you start using this tool, you will be asked to choose the parts you want to weld together, then you will be prompted to define the line of weld by specifying the start and end points. Once you specify all the lines, press ENTER to confirm connection.
Adding Objects To An Existing Welded Connection
Objects tab > Connection Objects panel > Add Objects to Connection
With this tool, you can add additional parts to a welded connection. When you activate this tool, you will be asked to select a connecting weld element. Select the element and press ENTER. Now, you need to select a beam or plate to be inserted or removed. When you select the part, press ENTER. The selected part will be added to the existing weld group.
Removing Objects From An Existing Welded Connection
Objects tab > Connection Objects panel > Delete Objects to Connection
This tool is the opposite of the tool described earlier. You can use it to remove parts from an existing welded connection. When you activate this tool, you will be asked to select a weld element. When you select the weld, press ENTER. You will be asked to select a beam or plate that you want to remove. Select the item and press ENTER to confirm. The element will be removed from the welded connection.
Weld Symbol Labels
To insert in the drawing a weld symbol go to Labels & Dimensions tab > Labels panel
You have three options available as far as weld symbols. You can insert the following into your drawing:
- Weld Symbol
- Weld Line
- Curved Weld Line
Insert Weld Symbol
To insert the above-mentioned symbols, you need to not be in 3D modeling, rather you need to open the drawing in which you want to place the symbols. Click on the type of weld symbol. You will be asked “Please Select Detail”. Select the element that needs to receive weld annotation. The next thing Advance will ask you: Please Select the Reference Point of the Symbol on the Detail. Select the point where you want to place the symbol. The new symbol will be inserted.
Insert Weld Line
When you select this tool, you will be asked: Please Select a View. Then you need to specify Start Point of the weld, followed by End Point. When you are done specifying the start and end points, simply press ENTER. You will be given a chance to modify your weld properties in the dialog box:
When you are done editing the properties of your weld, close the dialog box.
Insert Curved Weld Line
When you select this tool, you will be asked to Please Select a View. Then you need to specify Center Point of Arc, followed by Start Point and then End Point. Then the dialog box will open where you can specify all the weld properties:
When you are done editing the properties of your weld, close the dialog box.
