When you want to lengthen (stretch) a beam in Advance Steel, you have two options. You can stretch by providing a Numerical Value or graphically by stretching to a known Stretch Point in your model. Both methods are described in detail below.
Lenghten A Beam By Numerical Value
To lengthen or stretch a beam, select the beam to stretch. The beam will become highlighted. At the end of the beam, click on the blue grip.
You will be asked to specify the Stretch Point, or you can enter a value.
Since my beam is 8′–0″ long, as you can see in the Geometry Properties on the right, and I want to lengthen it by 4″, I entered 4. Make sure that the Polar Line is visible as shown in the screenshot above. Confirm your value by pressing ENTER.
Your beam is longer by 4″ as you can see in Geometry Properties.
Lenghten A Beam By Strech Point
Another option is to stretch the beam to a known point in your model. I have drawn a purpure T-line, and I want to extend my beam up to the center point, which is four inches from the beam.
To lengthen a beam to the center point of my T-lines, click on the blue point at the end of the beam. You will be asked to specify the Stretch Point.
Drag the beam and click on the center point of the T-lines.
Your beam is now longer by 4″ as you can see in Geometry Properties on the right in the Properties panel.
This concludes the Lengthen a Beam in Advance Steel Tutorial. Good luck using all the methods and tools described above. If you find this article valuable, please subscribe to my blog to be notified whenever I publish a new article.
